Your clothes send a perception of your nature to the outside world.
Probably since we were young, we have always heard the quote, "Dress the way you want to be addressed." But, have we taken time out to ask what it means? How does your appearance affect people's judgement of who you are?
First of all, there is a term called Dressing etiquette. It means your ability to recognise what is appropriate to wear on certain occasions, seasons or to certain places. Your dressing etiquette is one of the factors that determines the kind of first impression you give.
Some basic etiquette involves that you should know that black-coloured clothes are mostly associated with burials and casual denims are meant for open markets. Having a proper dress sense also entails that you do not wear evening gowns to your workplace if no company party is to be held and that a pyjama is definitely not proper for an international conference meeting.
All of these are basic facts we should know but then, in a workplace, what intricacies are we to take note of? I'll be classifying them under two broad headings based on the two most popular gender types.
The Male Gender
1.Get familiar with the type of shirt colour that works best for you.
Imagine how eye-piercing it will be seeing your company CEO dressed in a girly-pink shirt?
Now, not every male out there looks bad in a girly-pink colour but not everyone is able to pull it off quite well. Employ the service of a valet if you must to ensure that you look your best every time!
2. Keep your shirts tucked in so as to maintain the prim and proper outlook.
It will look comical if after dressing in a prim and proper manner, your shirt tails are running after you (Lol). Learn to keep them under your belts at all times. It gives you as a male a more refined look.
3.Take care of your socks and shoes.
Most guys tend to overlook these parts but, I tell you, these are one of the few things people check out when they meet you.
It's not a big deal to polish your shoes, so why would you go to an interview with dusty shoes? Why would you wear a shoe needed to be "tacked" with a rope to meet a potential business partner?
For heaven's sake, why would your brown socks look dusty???
It pisses clients off to see a dirty partner believe me!
Another thing which pisses off your potential client is wearing a shoe that makes a lot of noise. You aren't a female who wears heels, so try to go for shoes that make less noise.
4. Your general outlook.
At a glance, what type of vibes do you give people with your dressings? Maintaining a clean shaven beard or a properly trimmed one, using a nice-smelling cologne, spraying mouthwash if you feel you've got mouth odour. All of these few tips could get you closer to corridors of power if you take note of them.
The Female Gender.
1.Dress as occasion demands.
What I mean here is, have a proper knowledge of where you are going to determine how you dress. You can't possibly wear an evening gown to work nor can you wear a business suit to the market.
2.Curbing the habit of wearing skimpy clothes.
Well, you are the owner of your body but a female should be aware of self-love. Skimpy wears, especially to work, should be avoided as much as possible to reduce cases of workplace harassment.
3.Use of moderate make-up.
Make-ups are to enhance your overall beauty as a feminine creature. Going to the extreme is making yourself look like a walking make-up store. No client anywhere has a taste strong enough to look at someone who is trying to mimic a masquerade (Lol, that's in a lighter mood). In essence, use beautiful make-ups but keep them decent and minimal.
4. Your overall outlook.
Personally, I believe that unless your job description allows it, as a female, you are not to have nasal or lip piercings. This is because in the event that your job does not allow such, you are automatically placed at a disadvantage!
A nice body spray or perfume oil is good for the female too because body odour could be quite annoying.
