Consistency

It was a cool Monday morning when I saw Kiara, my next-door neighbour, dashing out of her house, for what reason, I do not know. The same thing repeated itself on Tuesday morning. I had gotten used to her new behaviour that on Wednesday morning,I had stood by my window to watch her hasten out of her home again but to my disappointment, that never happened. I had thought what happened the earlier days of the week was a new fetish my neighbour started involving in. However, on friday morning, I saw her dash out with all might way faster than the previous days. What could be happening? That was what I asked myself.

I kept ruminating on that question until two hours later, Kiara returned looking very downcast. Now, that's a big issue was exactly what came to my mind. She looked up and seeing me, burst into tears, I tried my best to calm her down which she did after a long while. I asked her what the issue was and she told me she had been laid off work, shock filled me and my next question was, "Why would they do that?". In her reply, she told me her boss said that she wasn't a consistent person.

Wow, that caught me unawares as I had thought of various reasons why she could be laid off work.

However, in my personal time, I thought over and over again why consistency could matter to a big organization like that and I decided to elucidate on that topic in order to prevent more Kiaras arising.

What exactly is consistency?

I term consistency in a simple and straight-forward word - "stability". I mean, you are found reliable in everything you do and people find it easy to place assignments in your care with no fear of imminent failure to deliver when needed.

When should we be consistent

At all times! Never be someone who people are scared of trusting with issues because they aren't sure about your personal principles. And remember, that there is no acceptable excuse for an inconsistent attitude.

How do I know if I am consistent?

In every consistent person, you can find the P.A.D rule at work in all they do.

P.A.D meaning Punctuality, Accountability and Discipline.

A consistent person will always be on time for set meetings without excuses.  Accountability is another thing such person will hold dear as you see them call ahead  of time if they are going to be late or absent, such people do not just take a french leave at work or school. Lastly, a consistent person is a disciplinarian as you will notice they do not like to be given excuses most especially by their subordinates, or friends and general social circle.

How Do I Know if I'm Inconsistent?

Inconsistency births laziness, unproductive attitude and failure as a student. You are an inconsistent person if you always find it hard to keep to time, find it hard to account for how you spent every minute of your day and even find it hard to uphold rules as a leader and you take all sort of excuses from every Tom, Dick and Harry in your organization. Being inconsistent with big projects actually start with "little" things as this and unfortunately, it's not an easily reversible habit.

My dear, how consistent are you? Can I readily vouch for you at all times? If not, be ready to change to prevent being the next Kiara.

Hoping to meet a better you soon!🥂
