Unleash Your Inner Writer: How to Transform Your Life with Journaling

Journaling means recording one's thoughts, emotions, feelings, reactions, aspirations, life expectations, and many more. There are different types of journaling:

1. Reading a journal: This is for creative writers and readers. It could be used for keeping ideas, poems, lists of books to read, and other things related to creative writing.

2. Emotional journaling: This is the recording of emotions felt and how you reacted. This could be used by people who are very emotional and sensitive.

3. Morning journaling: This is the writing of your thoughts immediately after you get up in the morning. It could be daily ideas, plans, or to-do lists.

There are many types but these are more common personal types which have helped a lot of people, including myself in personal development and growth. Journaling is often mistaken for a diary. However, a diary is a written recap of your day with no sole purpose except to write,  whereas journaling comes in different types; you could write with a purpose in mind - to check emotions, to keep track of your personal growth, for creative writings, aspirations and many more.

TIPS ON HOW TO JOURNAL FOR BEGINNERS

The Prosperity Ark

Journaling can be a self-check tool for you. To help keep you balanced, help you manage your stress and anxieties.

1. You don't necessarily need to keep a paper journal. You could draw too. This is where we appreciate technology and use our note apps. Though sometimes, writing on paper gives one this satisfaction and inner peace. Journaling works in any way you choose as long as you pour your thoughts out.

2. There's no particular time for journaling. Personally, I write at any given time of the day. I could write at night to plan for the next day, and in the mornings to plan my day or my thoughts. Just know that anytime will work for you.

3. You don't need to think far, especially if you have writer's block. You could simply start with what is on your mind at that moment or something right in front of you.

4. You could have a prompt if you have writer's block or on days you feel you are short of words. I have tried using a monthly prompt for my poetry writing and so far, it has worked for me.

5. Journaling should be fun and enjoyable. Don't treat it as a challenge or task. It's more like you talking to yourself about yourself. It should be a pleasure.

6. Remember when I said you don't need a book? You might need one. You could carry a pocketbook in case you get a chance to write, or better still you could use a note app on your device.

Journaling, fun journaling, how to journal

7. Your journaling doesn't need a particular style, theme or writing pattern. You could write your thoughts as messy as they come, with time, things could change and it helps keep track of your journaling journey.

8. Make journaling a part of your daily activities. It doesn't need a fixed time, especially for someone who has a busy schedule. Nevertheless, it should be done daily to keep your consistency.

9. Journaling comes with an emotional benefit. You should write through your emotions, recapping your day with every emotion, feeling and reaction felt. This way, you do not forget what happened on a particular day after a very long time because your emotions have all been well written down.
