THE TRUTH ABOUT LIES

As humans in the 21st century, there is so much division amongst us because of the differences in our Race, ethnicity, sexuality, political stances, beliefs, values, and many others. We have nothing in common when you look at it. Even two Africans, living in the same country, in the same city and the same hometown, would vary when grouped under the aforementioned criteria. So, the question is how do we tolerate each other? Why hasn't all hell broke loose? How hasn't The human race come to an end? The answer is quite simple. The only reason why humans are yet to rip each other apart, to destroy themselves is because we still share just one thing in common, the thin thread that holds us together, the one thing we all shun, one of man's greatest desires deep down, LIES.

A lie is an untrue statement with intent to deceive. This is the definition most people are used to. But, in all honesty, there is no single definition of a lie, nor is there any true definition. If Vladimir was right about the truth being a lie used often, then doesn't that mean the truth is the accepted lie? Just like the early philosophers believed that it was impossible to know truth, it is also impossible to know lies. You cannot know the lie if you do not know the truth and you cannot know the truth, if you do not know the lie. However, I will give you three truths. Three truths that became THE TRUTH because they apply to everyone. Three truths that will bring the lie into the spotlight. 

Truth 1. EVERYBODY LIES

It is amusing how everybody knows the truthfulness of this yet, we're always quick to judge liars. In reality, deep down, we don't really want to hear the truth. No matter how prepared you are to take it, nobody is ever prepared enough to digest the truth. Yet, I wonder why we say quotes like: "I'd rather take a sip of the bitter truth than to swallow a gallon of the sweet lies." Isn't this a lie itself? Recently, I've begun to understand that everybody has their reasons for lying. It may be your close friends, families, boyfriends or girlfriends, even your workers; everyone lies to you yet, when the actual truth is discovered, you lunge at them like you're any different. Ever heard of :What goes around comes back around?

If you lie, even the littlest of lies, it's only normal for lies to be given back to you irrespective of their sizes.

Truth 2. WE LOVE LIES

In all honesty, the reason why lies would never cease in our society is because deep down we love it. We can't help but love the forbidden. We lie to ourselves that a bitter truth is better than a sweet lie or I'd rather the truth hurts me than for the lie to comfort me. But, we only say this because the truth was discovered to be a lie and we became hurt because we hoped for the lie to be true. How did you feel when the lie was told at first? What if the truth never got out? Would you still feel as though the lie was unnecessary? No, you wouldnt. Because most times than not, the lie always favours the majority; we long for that temporary feeling of satisfaction, of relaxation of happiness that comes with the sweet taste of lies. 

 Truth 3. WE LIE TO OURSELVES.

As much as it is hard to admit this, this is the easiest of all lies. It comes naturally and we are always quicker to accept the lies that we tell ourselves than the truth that we know within. Sure, we come up with lies for ourselves because we just can't cope with the truth, but doesn't that make us more pathetic? It is normal to be lied to by others, but to lie to yourself is on another different level. We lie about our true feelings, our real desires, our true personalities as though we are afraid of ourselves. This is what we all share in common with Celebrities, influencers, public figures; FAKE LIVES. One way or the other, we all live fake lives. The moment you don't act the way you know you are meant to act, the true you, that means you're being fake.

This is why we lie. 

If we all had one honest shot at a wish, it'll be to turn the lies in our lives into the truth.
